VE80 Commemorations

Updated: May 24

This week's meeting was our way of thanking and remembering those who fought for freedom in World War 2 and to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

The Squirrels and Beavers used egg cartons to create boats like those of the naval fleet and tested them in a pool, wrote letters to a veteran as part of the VE Mail project and examined objects borrowed from Royal Armouries Fort Nelson, where Bagheera works.

As well as that, they also prepared for our trip to the zoo tomorrow by playing a game to identify what would need to be taken in our day bags.

The Cubs and Scouts had a similar evening, but theirs started by looking at the Roll of Honour on the Scouts website. Their history section has information about the role of Scouts in WW2 (as well as WW1), including the list of all those Scouts who lost their lives in service.

After that, there were letters to be written to a veteran and looking at the museum objects before ending the evening with parachute games.

That was our meeting this week, but this weekend, it's all about the animals! Stay tuned for the update about Marwell!
