A Weekend Out of This World!

Updated: Apr 6

What a weekend we had! There was so much crammed in, it was no wonder we needed two days, not just an evening meeting. Where to start!

The premise of the weekend was our young people attending astronaut training school so there were loads of different lessons. They made their own space helmets, used fruit to create a (sort of) scale model of the solar system to show planet size and distances apart, used teamwork to 'land a space rover on another planet' (move a cup using string from one plate to another), created moon craters, tried space food (freeze dried mushroom risotto) and learned about those brave men and women who have actually been into outer space.

Teamwork rocket launch and landing

With all that going on, there were badges to be awarded. They all earned another Nights Away stage and the different age groups all had their version of a space themed activity badge:

The Squirrels earned their Space Explorer badge and the Beavers and Cubs earned their versions of the Space Badge.

Not only did we achieve all of that, but Evelyn chose the sleepover to swim up from Squirrels to Beavers! BRAVO, Evelyn!

What a weekend, but sadly that's all the organised Scouting for the week as it's half term, so we'll see you next week when we return for the new term. Don't forget to check out the socials!
